StaffSuperintendent Minister:
Rev'd Edgar Daniel M.Th M.Phil Edgar came originally from St. Ives in Cornwall. Accepted for the Methodist ministry in 1968, he trained at Wesley College in Bristol. His first appointment after college was to the Luton Industrial College and Mission, then the pioneering centre of Methodism’s nationwide workplace ministry. Preaching regularly to a town centre congregation, he was also chaplain to a large engineering company and involved with many schools and apprentice training centres. His nine years there greatly influenced his subsequent ministry in the urban estates of northern Liverpool, the Cornish tin-mining heartland of Camborne and the widespread city circuit of Plymouth and Devonport, before coming to The Avenue Church in the Newton Abbot circuit in 2005. Helping the churches to reach out and discover ways of connecting our society, now largely beyond the influence of the churches with the crucially transforming good news of Christ remains the central concern of his ministry. Minister: Rev'd Kevin Hooke B.A. Coming originally from Kings Lynn in Norfolk, Kevin lived in various parts of England during his childhood, as his father worked for NCH. Kevin entered Wesley House, Cambridge, in 1988 to train for the ministry, and between 1991 and 2005 served in the Gloucester, Launceston Area, and Exeter Circuits. He therefore has experience of ministering to rural, town and city churches and communities, as well as of working in a Local Ecumenical Partnership. He joined the full-time staff of the Circuit Team in September 2007, taking over pastoral responsibility for five of the churches, mainly along the A38 corridor but also Ipplepen. He also continues as a part-time chaplain within the prison service.
